Chances were students did
not know what D ECA orH O SA
were, let alone what they did. But
whenever a student purchased
from the Ram Supply Store, or
bought a Christmas stocking, May
basket, etc., they gave money to
their fund-raising to compete
across the state and country.
DECA students put in many
hours of study time for state and
national competitions. If they made
it past state, members went on to
nationals, which consisted of two
tests and two oral exams. Seniors
Rhonda Kauten and Joe Rexin, jun
iors Kari Wiley and Wendy Hun
tington qualified for nationals which
took place in Orlando, Florida.
HOSA also competed in state
and national competitions. In their
competitions members are put in
a situation where their health skills
are tested. An example was the
CPR/firstaid competition in which
members had to demonstrate the
correct skills to save another
person's life.
To raise money for these com
petitions HOSA made and sold
Christmas stockings and May bas
kets which according to President
Patrick Egger, "are quite a popular
item." As a charity event HOSA
sponsored the annual blood drive
held at the school which brought
in a little over 90 units of blood.
Besides competingatstate and
nationals, DECA also ran the Ram
Supply Store. The profits from
the store went to a $ 1,000 DECA
scholarship. Profits also raised
about $100 to $200 to send the
people who made state and na
tionals, according to President
Rhonda Kauten.
