Ralston High has shown its 983 students everything from academics to
caring. Many students agree that Ralston has a well-rounded education
program, as well as opportunities in extracurricular activities. Freshman
Alexis Norton observed that the teachers do actually care if you complete
homework or not. Junior Jesse Kruger thinks that our school should try to
come together as a whole, not just as separate classes. Sophomore Eric
DeLaet reported, "High school is about more than learning ax+b=c but
about learning about life. When will we as a group learn from others'
mistakes? We have lost so much this year, and yet we don't get the point."
Ralston High experienced a tragic month in November when seniors
Peter Larson, Daniel Whitlock and Bradley Hanson were killed in car
accidents. Senior Kim Halligan said, "This year, Ralston has shown me that
people can put their prejudices aside and bond together in a time of need."
A lot of students agreed. Sophomore Erin Konwinski observed that our
school does have compassion. Sophomore Jennifer Hickey agreed saying
that it made her feel good knowing that there are people in the world who
care, and they do go to our school.
The last major event was the school budget. Sophomore Robert Gregg
believes that there are ways that students can continue to receive a good
education at Ralston despite the amount of hurt classes and programs have
taken. Sophomore John Sysouvahn disagrees telling us that students sign
up for classes for certain reasons, and when that reason is cut out of the class
the student loses interest. An example he gave was the science classes and
their loss of labs. Junior Kiersten Runnels said, "It is disappointing what has
happened to our district as far as budget cuts. We need to find a way to
withhold Ralston's reputation."
