varsity cheer give body-heart-spirit
by Natasha Hernandez, Jaydyn Ramsey, Emily Nieman
o Ralston Rams! Cheering together creates group unity and lasting
friendships. "Cheer is exciting and really fun. It also gives you a kind of
second family," said senior Keely Krajeski. Freshman Long Vu added, "It
has really changed my life because I met and made a lot of new friends
from Ralston and other schools, and it taught me a lot of skills and how to
lead the school’s spirit."
Part of being a strong cheerleader means addressing weaknesses. “I
think that a weakness in cheer is absences because if someone is not there
at practice we can't change or fix the routine,” said Vu. “My weaknesses
are smiling and being really sharp with motions when cheering at football
and basketball games,” said Krajeski.
Of course, everyone goes through challenges. “A challenge we faced
was always seeing eye to eye and agreeing on everything,” Krajeski
said.“There were a lot of stressful practices and games that people were
not being focused so it was very hard,” Vu commented. Krajeski added,
“Definitely. You spend a lot of time together and that sometimes leads to
arguments, but overall, we all love each other and have a great time,”
Keely answered.
Everyone learns something from someone or something. “I have
learned to be a better leader and how to bring a whole team together,” said
Krajeski. “I've learned that you don't become a cheerleader for fame, you
become a cheerleader because you want to show people that you can lead
the school's spirit and that you can represent the school in front of other
people.”
Our year is ending, but a new one is beginning. “The only thing I
would change would be to add more team bonding. This was the best year
I had on cheer, so I probably would keep everything the same,” Krajeski
admitted. “Never give up trying to do what you really want to do. Where
there is love and inspiration you cannot go wrong.”
