This year’s winter show was the nostalgic comedy A Christmas
Story, a staged version of the classic movie. The play features
Ralphie, played by Tomer Palmon, in pursuit of a Red Rider
beebee gun - and a stellar grade on his essay. Curtis Grosse as
Ralphie’s father, Faith Evertson as his mother, and Jordan
Unger as Ralphie’s younger brother round out this talented cast.
The play is adapted from one writer’s memoir about growing up
in the Midwest in the 1940s, as seen through Ralphie’s young
view. The play includes many of the beloved movie scenes -
pink bunny pajamas, visiting Santa, and someone stuck to an
frozen lamppost. This fast-paced play was “hard to memorize,”
said Davis. The quick dialogue and comic relief kept the cast
and the audience entertained.
While the story may be full of simple themes, it was not a
simple production. Evertson stated, “the setup was great but it
was definitely hard to do.” The actors interact with a barrage of
props and transitions, making technical rehearsal a crucial
challenge. Still, the cast managed to “work hard and have fun,”
commented Evertson.
