Students also had fun decorating their rooms and units for the
candy, contest during the Christmas Carnival. Shawna Penny said, "We decided
to enter the contest because we had the best—Harley Santa and mistletoe
friends, f headbands." Ashley Lawson, one of the girls from the winning unit said,

decorate. Our DDL, Kristen Hogrefe, had a marvelous theme—Coca
Cola! We had a lot of fun! I can't wait for next year!"
While Christmas is full of many exciting events, it is also about
giving. The college family pulled together to make Christmas special
for a member of the family. "Rebecca Kock, a student from Aruba
and member of the CCC Choir, did not have the money to go home
for Christmas," said Janice Wisinski. Heidi Hopkins wanted to help.
"Rebecca has been very homesick all semester, and this has been one of
her hardest semesters," said Heidi. "I couldn't afford the ticket myself
so I sent out a memo to about 100 students, faculty, and staff members.
Within two days we had raised over $900. Even though money is tight
for a lot of people, they gave so generously." Those who collected
the money for Rebecca decided to give her the present the last day of
choir. Heidi said, "We handed her a piece of paper that said, 'Have a
Merry Christmas IN ARUBA!' She was in shock when she read the
letter. She couldn't believe she was going to spend Christmas with her
family." Janice Wisinski said, "It was touching to see how everyone
pulled together out of love for Rebecca."
