/ | found out that there's a lot
I more to it than just checking
out a book," said junior Marie
Payton.
Being a library aide proved to be
a lot more than just sitting around
yawning.
Library aides' responsibilities
consisted of processing new books,
mending books, stamping new
periodicals, putting new periodicals
in their appropriate covers, filing
cards in the card catalog, and
keeping their assigned sections
organized and all books in order.
Library aides received two
credits per semester, given on a
pass/fail basis.
"Student/aides are able to
contribute something of
themselves to this school," said
librarian Kerry Baldwin.
Students were able to assume
responsibility and to learn
procedures that could be used in
the work world. The school
budget also benefited from having
library aides.
"Having students as aides
resulted in a monetary saving to
the school district for wages," said
Baldwin. Aides also freed Baldwin's
time so that she could spend more
time helping staff and students.
"It was a neat experience and I
learned a lot from it," said Payton.
Studying in comfort. Freshmen Kim Moore
and Kim Carson make use of carpet as well as
tables in the library.
