etermination and exhaustion
D shot through the runner's face
as he reached the two-and-a-haif
mile mark. His aching muscles and
blistered feet were only some of the
pains acquired after the race, and
limping down the halls could prove
it the next day of school.
Running long distance sounded
crazy to some, but not to cross
country team members.
“ I'm exhausted after practice, but I
know deep inside that it's worth it.
It's a challenge, but most of all, it
keeps me in shape for other upcom
ing sports," said junior Gina Werre.
To be competitive, to develop
positive mental attitudes, and to
have better times in each meet over
last year, were only some of the goals
that the team had as a whole. Both
boys and girls were young, with little
experience.
Voted most valuable runners were
freshman Meg Fowler and junior
Rich Hellyer. Apparently they had
the "self-dedication to the sport"
which coach Gary Dubbs said was
essential.
