EXPERIENCES TO
SERVE THE LORD.
oining the college faculty in 1970, Dr.
Jean Macfarlane has served in a variety
of capacities. However, education was
not her original occupation. Dr.
Macfarlane is a Registered Nurse.
When her family moved to Florida, she de
cided to pursue a new goal—teaching. Doing
this meant starting over in her education. She
had to earn bachelor and graduate degrees in
English, and she finished with her Doctor of
Philosophy from the University of Florida. Dr.
Macfarlane was the chair of the division of
Arts and was a professor of English and Lit
erature. Her favorite class was Chaucer be
cause "he is one of the most interesting people
that I have met in literature."
Things have changed since Dr. Macfarlane
began. She taught all the English courses and
three education courses. In addition to those
responsibilities, she was also school nurse, di
rector for school plays, and yearbook sponsor.
Even though she has seen many changes, Dr.
Macfarlane said that some things still stay the
same. "Our school really was founded by
God, and as long as we are true to Him, we are
fulfilling our mission."
