             * | J i Janet! Are you ready to go to
               ■ ■ class?”
                ‘‘Sure, let’s go.”
“1 really like having cheerleading as
a class now. It makes it a lot easier to
get things done. Everybody has to be
              there and work together.”
“Yeah, you’re right, it’s fun when
              everybody is there making signs,
buttons and getting pepped up for the
              game.”
                “Let’s practice our cheers, then
              make the run-through, OK?”
                “Sounds great.”
Many people didn’t realize the time
and energy the cheerleading squad put
              into promoting school spirit. The
              cheerleaders organized all the pep
rallies and came up with new events to
              involve the different classes.
The pre-season pep rally consisted of
eating a whipped cream pie to find a
lifesaver, finding an apple in the
bottom of a soup barrel, (the catch was
that the apple was on the 50-yard line),
and the traditional class yell that was
              won by the seniors.
The squad ordered new uniforms this
year by looking at several different
  f
[ books. After they decided on the
uniforms, they had to decide on colors
              and what emblems they wanted.
“I think it was fun to pick out our
new uniforms, but it was so hard
because there were so many different
              styles,” said varsity cheerleader Lori
              Selinger.
“1 think it was a good idea having
cheerleading as a class. Everybody had
to be there and I could keep up with
what was going on. Last year 1 only
saw the girls on Tuesday mornings and
if there was a problem it took a while
to come to my attention,” said Jan
              Knowles, sponsor.
If you would have asked any
cheerleader what she got out of
promoting school spirit, she sould have
told you: early morning practices, sore
              legs, and cold nights.
