T h e ev er-im p ortan t p itch in g staff looks strong. It is com posed

w ith B o b D y e in reserve. B o b O strom is back-stop , ably su p p le
m ented by C laren ce B o sto n . G eo rg e Stead is h o ld in g dow n first
base, and T a y lo r C otter is second sacker. Sh ortstop goes to G ib b y
M o rg an , o f foo tb all fam e, and B o b D ye is p layin g th ird . L eft
field is covered by C h ase Sand erson , and th e cen ter p o sitio n is
closely con tested betw een R an dy Y o u n g and A . D avis, w h ile Jo e
B u m s and C ap tain O tis take turns in rig h t field. G eo rg e Sprague,
D o n B oyd en , H erm on T o o f, and Sand erson are v alu able infield
subs. T h e regu lar ou tfield ers are seconded by Evans R an d , Jo h n M acom b er, L aw rence
T in g ley , and Sam W au g h tel.
A t this w ritin g the team looks good and despite an ap p aren t w eakness in th e outfield
should be successful.
T h e season opened w ith N o b le and G reen o u g h on A p ril 2 2 , a w eek later than usual.
In sp ite o f a lack o f p ractice because o f rain, th e team w arm ed up after th e first few

the first in n in g . D ye opened a scorin g spree in the fifth w ith a th ree bagger, after B u rn s
had w alked. N o b le scored in th e sixth and nin th , bu t w e g o t enough runs in th e seventh
to giv e us th e score o f 7 to 6 as th e gam e ended. T h e con test was m arked by several w ell-
placed bunts and som e good ru n n in g by our team .
C ran ston , a new com er on our schedule, w on from us on
A p ril 2 6, 1 0 to 1. T h e v isitin g team played air-tig h t b all, bu t our
team played loosely. Jo e B u rn s pitch ed w ell in sp ite o f a lack of
support. T h e only red eem ing features o f th e gam e w ere a sizzling
trip le by G eo rg e Stead and good p laying by B o sto n and T o o f,
w ho w ent into th e gam e in the late in n in g s. C ap tain O tis is lead
ing the batters w ith 5 0 0 at present.
C ou ntry D ay and N o rth A ttleb o ro have been dropped from
the sched u le this year, and th e gam e w ith G o v ern or D u m m er has
been sh ifted from early in th e season to th e last gam e; otherw ise
th ere have been no changes.
U n d er th e tu telage o f C oaches W au g h tel and Jo e Freem an,
th e team should steadily im prove and give a good account o f itself.
