                                                      A t  C oach  H o w e’s  call  fo r  cross  country  m en  th e  fo llo w in g
                                                 runners  rep orted :  C apt.  W ild ,  Syren,  G raeff,  Pierce,  A rn old ,
                                                 Schw arz,  M erritt,  M cC o n n ell,  W illia m s,  and  M oore.  T h e   season
                                                 was  quite  successful,  as  th e  team   w on  tw o  out  o f  th ree  dual  m eets
                                                 and  placed  second  in  a  trian g u lar  m eet.
                                                      T h e   season  opened  w ith  a  victory  over  W a rw ick   H ig h .
                                                 W h e e le r  o f  W arw ick   w on  th e  race,  but  W ild ,  Syren,  and  G raeff
                                                 finished  close  behind   h im   in  that  order.  P ierce,  our  only  new   m an
                                                 to  place,  finished  in  fou rteen th   place, and was  follow ed   by A rn old ,
                                                 w ho  placed  fifteenth .
                                                      T h e   next  m eet  was  a  trian g u lar  one  w ith  D ean   A cadem y  and
                                                 C en tral  H ig h   at  R o g er  W illia m s  Park.  T h e   final  score  was  C en ­
                                                 tral  20 ,  M oses  B row n   4 6 ,  D ean   6 4 .  D eG o m ar  o f  D ean   w on  the
                                                 race,  but  the  C en tral  team ,  led  by  A llen ,  finished  in  good   places
                            and  easily  w on.  W ild ,  our  first  m an  to  place,  took  seventh.  N e x t  o f  our  m en  cam e  Syren
                            in   nin th   place.  H e   was  follow ed   by  G raeff,  P ierce,  and  Schw arz  in  th at  order.
                                 A s  C ran ston   defeated  our  cross  country  team   by  one  p o in t  last  year,  our  runners  w ere
                            out  to  w in  this  year.  T h e   m eet  was  closely  contested  and  in terestin g ,  and  ended  w ith  th e
                            score  2 6 -2 9   in  our  favor.  W ild   w on  the  race,  w ith  a  C ran ston   m an  som e  d istance  behind
                            him .  A s  a  C ranston  ru nner  was  seen  to  cut  across  th e  fo o tb all  field,  G raeff,  w ho  ran  a
                            fine  race,  was  aw arded  th ird   place.  M erritt,  P ierce,  and  Syren  cam e  in  to   finish  our
                            scoring.
                                 T h e   cross  country  season  closed  w ith  a  defeat  at  th e  hands  o f  L aSalle,  w hich  alw ays
                            has  one  o f  th e  best  d istance  team s  in  th e  state.  A lth ou g h   the
                            score  o f  1 8 -4 2   was  not  very  close,  W ild   and  G raeff  m ade  th e
                            finish  interesting .   M o llo y   o f  L aSalle  easily  w on,  bu t  another
                            L a Sa lle  m an  barely  nosed  out  W ild   fo r  second  place.  T h e   m ost
                            in terestin g   part  o f  th e  race  was  near  th e  finish  w hen  G raeff
                            sprinted   around  th e  track  close  beh in d   five  L aSalle  runners.  H e
                            m anaged  to  nose  out  tw o  o f  his  op p onen ts  fo r  seventh  place.
                            P ierce  was  our  next  m an  to  finish  and  crossed  th e  lin e  to  take
                            eleven th .  O u r  last  scorers  w ere  Syren  and  M erritt,  w ho  finished
                            fou rteen th   and  fifteenth  respectively.   C lose  behind   them   w ere
                            M cC o n n ell  and  Schw arz.
                                 A ll  th rou gh   th e  season  W ild ,  G raeff,  Syren,  Pierce,  and
                            M erritt  did  very  w ell.  T h e   prospects  fo r  next  year’s  team   seem
                            very  good .  A ll  o f  this  year’s  m em bers  excep t  M erritt  w ill  run  on
                            th e  1 9 3 3   team .
