The 20th of March is marked as a Village Health Volunteers’
Day in order to highlight the importance of Village Health
Volunteers or VHV who selflessly volunteer to work for public.
The main role of village health volunteers is decreasing social
inequality and getting poor people in remote areas access to
medical treatment. They also provide the people with proper
health care knowledge. They truly are eyes and ears of the
health system in communities. Thailand’s village health
volunteers are unsung heroes, working to support the
prevention, detection and reporting of COVID-19. The
volunteers are knocking on doors of all households to give
advice on COVID-19 prevention, symptoms and self-
observation, while handing out cloth masks that they have
hand-sewn as well as alcohol-based gel.
