MAKING THE WORLD A BETTER PLACE
Helping others, the most sacred human value; a value that we must always keep close to our hearts. No matter how busy we are or what
problems we may have, we should always find time to help others;because somewhere in the world, there’s someone hoping that someday
they will be helped by someone. That someday, their prayers will be answered.
After 12 years, Syria bears the world’s largest refugee crisis. . Amidst the ongoing civil war, there are Syrian refugees being faced with
challenges such as poverty and unemployment, which have been exacerbated during the COVID-19 pandemic.The economic downturn has
also exposed them to multiple protection risks, such as child labor, gender-based violence, early marriage and other forms of exploitation.
Millions have lost their livelihoods and are increasingly unable to meet their basic needs – including accessing clean water, electricity, food,
medicine and paying rent.
Countries and organisations and even citizens like you and me, have come together to help these people. They all are doing the best they
can,on their part, to help support the refugees. One such organization, for example, is Khalsa Aid. The UK-based humanitarian relief charity
is helping Syrian refugees, working tirelessly to provide food,clothing, shelter and medical facilities. There have been instances wherein the
NGO volunteers have rushed to provide aid, be it in areas of civil conflict or in regions affected by natural disaster.
The UNHCR (The United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees) has provided protective equipments to hospitals and health clinics,
distributed medicines and supported the construction of quarantine areas and hygiene facilities.
Citizens from around the world are donating monthly to the UNHCR to provide refugees with ongoing relief and protection. Even if it is not
wholly sufficient, all the help is making a difference, helping them with the basic facilities they are deprived of as a result of the war.
And you too can do so. You, too,can volunteer.
Friends, doing anything for others, whether it is a small action or a big help, is a gesture that spreads happiness. You can provide help to
anyone, be it your friend, a stranger, colleagues, or neighbors. As a wise man once said, service to humankind is always considered as a
service to god. Do the best you can to help those in need. Act as if what you do makes a difference. Because, it does.

Conservation refers to taking care and protecting energy and resources to maintain balance in nature. For saving the energy and resources
we require to gain enough knowledge about it and should think in that direction. Energy conservation is the decision and practice of using
less energy, when we limit our energy usage, we lower our impact on the environment. The longer we go out without making significant
changes, the greater is the threat of global warming and climate change to our daily lives. Energy conservation is a part of the concept of
eco-sufficiency.
Many ways can be adopted to conserve energy like reducing wastage and losses. On global level, energy use can also be reduced by the
stabilization of population growth. Natural resources occur naturally on earth. It forms an indispensable part of our lives. But they are
at depletion because of the overuse. Resources can be classified into 2 types renewable and non-renewable. Renewable resources can
replenish naturally. These include air, water and sunlight. Non-renewable resources consist of coal, natural gas, oil etc. These resources
cannot be replenished by natural resources easily to keep up with consumption. The progress and development had led to exploitation of
these resources. This all demands a responsible behavior of conserving the resources to ensure sustainability.
‘Sustainability’ refers to meeting the needs of present without compromising the ability of future generations to meet their needs. If we do
not use these resources judiciously then it can create an imbalance in the environment. Conservation of energy and natural resources is the
need of the future generations. It is our duty to conserve these for a safe and secure future.
