‘during the same time as’ or ‘although,’ Japanese-nagara (or -
nagara mo) sometimes means ‘though’:
Asa go-han o tabe-nagara shukudai o shimasu.
I do my homework while eating my breakfast.
Rajio o kiki-nagara, hon o yomimashita.
While I listened to the radio, I also read a book.
Hontō no koto o shitte i-nagara, nani mo iwanakatta n
desu ne.
Though you knew the truth, you didn’t say
anything, right?
Gakusei de ari-nagara sensei ni hanron shita.
Though only a student, he argued with his
teacher.
