我从椅子上跳起来,在房间里不耐烦地踱着步,内心充满了挫败
感。
"This is unworthy of you, Holmes," I said. "I could not
have believed that you would have descended to this. You
have made inquiries into the history of my unhappy brother,
and you now pretend to deduce this knowledge in some
fanciful way. You cannot expect me to believe that you have
read all this from his old watch! It is unkind and, to speak
plainly, has a touch of charlatanism in it."
“福尔摩斯,你这样就太不对了,”我说,“我不敢相信,你竟做出
如此卑劣的事。你肯定调查过我的过往,以及我那不幸的哥哥,而现在
却假装这一切都是以某种神奇的方式推理出来的。你不能指望我相
信,仅仅从这块表上,你就能知道这一切!坦白地说,你这种行为很不
厚道,而且有招摇撞骗之嫌。”
"My dear doctor," said he kindly, "pray accept my
apologies. Viewing the matter as an abstract problem, I had
forgotten how personal and painful a thing it might be to
you. I assure you, however, that I never even knew that you
had a brother until you handed me the watch."
