therapy, medical terminology, and health maintenance. Lorie travels to each of the schools to teach First
Aid and CPR. One of most interesting aspects of this specific virtual classroom is that students are given
the opportunity to job shadow one career of their choice and also one career that fits their personality,
based on a personality test. Lorie does this so that students can experience a career that they might not
have considered but that fits their personality.
Organization and communication is what Lorie has credited to the success of her virtual
classrooms. Managing a variety of students, especially those in different time zones is not an easy task.
However, there are advantages to having the flexibility of online classroom. Many students in rural
North Dakota do not have the option to take a different electives because their school does not offer
them. Virtual classrooms provide that opportunity and encourage students to pursue different careers
that they may not have before considered. Schools sign a contract with MRECTC and pay $600 per
student plus an annual fee to participate in these virtual classes.
