I chose to create my unit for a Business Communication course. I acknowledge that it would be
necessary to complete some background research regarding the topics of study: informal and formal
language in the workplace, verbal and nonverbal communication strategies, written business
communication, technological business communication and the process of metacognition.
In regards to the different examples of business communication, I plan to provide examples of
verbal, written, and technological communication. Verbal business communication could be exemplified
through a television or video clip of a fictional business event or through role-playing. Written business
communications could be gathered from local businesses (business letters, emails, news releases, etc.).
Technological business communication could be exemplified through radio and television
advertisements of local businesses, as well as local business websites. I listed some possible options for
each on the specific lesson plan.
I would consider to contact my former employer, Shaun Ahlgren as a member from the
community to visit the classroom and discuss their experience as a business communicator. He is the
owner of a web design and information technology company and would be a great resource.
The business world of the 21st century requires communication in three forms: verbal, written
and through technology. Any person working in the business industry requires the ability to
communicate effectively through these three forms, using both informal and formal language. The
following unit will focus on improving the students’ knowledge of the three forms of business
communication, as well as how to improve these skills continually once they enter the business world.
