               Time: 50 minutes

               Overview:
               This lesson will specifically focus in the verbal form of business communication. Students will review the
               concept of non-verbal language, as well as apply skills of informal and formal verbal communication
               through the practice of role-playing. Class with begin with the showing of a positive and negative clip of
               verbal business communication, chosen at the teacher’s discretion, and focusing on student interest.
               Following the viewing of each clip, the teacher will lead the class in a discussion that analyzes why the
               verbal business communication in each clip was appropriate or inappropriate, as well as what would
               have made the negative example a better business conversation. Students will pair share their ideas
               concerning a definition for the following term: non-verbal language.

               Write a class definition of the aforementioned term on the board for students to record in their
               notebooks. Ask students to pair share answers to the following questions:
                     Why is non-verbal language important in verbal business communication?
                     What are some examples of negative non-verbal language?
                     What are some examples of positive non-verbal language?
                     Create a list of 3-5 non-verbal body cues one should always use when communicating in the
                       business world.

               Write student responses to each of the posed questions on the blackboard, and ask them to record the
               answers in their notebooks.
