Malaysia’s holistic approach to modernisation under Vision 2020 has
been underscored and given additional impetus by our Prime Minister,
when he stressed that the three most important qualities he expects from
the civil servants are integrity, ability and loyalty. To him, integrity must be
at the top, and above anything else.
Our Prime Minister had also listed six principles for civil servants to adopt
to help them move beyond a “business as usual” mind set. He outlined
two new acronyms, that is, CTI, which in the Malay language stands for
Cepat, Tepat dan Integriti or in English, “Swift, Accurate and Integrity”;
and PCI, which stands for “Productivity, Creativity and Innovation”, as
new call signs for better service to the people.
These two acronyms mirror the process of renewal that the Malaysian
civil service needs to carry out, a process that is more innovative, and
which is constantly seeking new ideas, and good ideas that are not so
conventional. In other words, what is important is not the output, but the
outcome.
Let me conclude by thanking all the participants for your active and
enthusiastic participation in this programme. Malaysia believes that by
sharing its best practices, especially on our transformation programme, it
will lead to deliberation of new and innovative ideas on transformation,
and provide new opportunities for both Malaysia and the African
countries.
To the co-organiser, ESAMI and the Malaysian Institute of Integrity, I would
like to thank them for the successful co-ordination of this programme. I
hope the network set up with the various member countries will continue
as part of our global smart partnership programme. My appreciation also
goes to the various Ministries and Agencies that have contributed to the
successful implementation of the programme.
On this note, I hope you will make the most of your remaining stay in
Malaysia, and take home with you warm memories of your visit.

MALAYSIA ON AN UPTURN
t gives me great pleasure to be with all of you this evening at the close
of the 4th Annual Young Corporate Malaysians Summit (YMCS). I would
Ilike to thank the organisers for inviting me to be a part of this esteemed
event.
This annual Summit, which brings together young Malaysian professionals
embarking into the corporate world with CEOs and captains of industry,
provides a good opportunity for networking, exchange of views and
sharing of ideas. As I see many have seized the opportunity to be here
today, I believe the Summit has achieved its objective to bring new and
established professionals together, as we move towards the future.
The Government has identified the private sector as the catalyst of growth
for the country, with the public sector playing a facilitative role. Taking
cognisance of this, the theme of this year’s Summit, “Diversity in a Global
Workplace: Challenges and Opportunities” is indeed apt as we move
closer towards becoming a high-income economy by the year 2020, as
envisioned under the New Economic Model.
There is no doubt that the workplace is changing, and hence, there is a
necessity to understand the diverse issues that have risen in recent times.
This Summit has identified many topics which are relevant for discussion,
touching on “Shattering the Glass Ceiling” and other related issues, and
managing and incorporating diversity. The sessions have captured the
essence of diversity in the modern world, that is, understanding what
diversity means, and how adaptive leadership is paramount for leaders
of this generation and the next. I believe the discussions were interesting
and the distinguished speakers have voiced their opinions on many issues
related to the global workplace that are relevant in this day and age.
When we think of women’s participation in the work force, we must
not confine ourselves to thinking of women in the traditional role.
