AMMI-MIDA Dialogue Session and
Launch of the AMMI Medical Device
Industry Outlook Report
MIDA top management team and twenty- five AMMI
members a ended the dialogue session which was
chaired by MIDA CEO, Y.Bhg. Dato’ Azman Mahmud.
This was followed by the launch of the AMMI Medical
Device Industry Outlook Report 2016, officiated by
Y.Bhg. Datuk N. Rajendran, MIDA Deputy CEO II.
AMMI Chairman, Mr Hitendra Joshi gave a
presenta on of the report, highligh ng the increase
of members’ collec ve exports last year by 20% to
reach RM8.3 billion. He reiterated that this
represented more than 50% of Malaysia’s total
exports of medical devices of RM15.5 billion in 2015.
He then presented the AMMI Medical Device Industry
Report 2016 to Y.Bhg. Datuk N. Rajendran. The launch
was followed by a press conference and luncheon for
invited guests.
ISSUES HIGHLIGHTED BY AMMI DURING DIALOGUE SESSION
1. AMMI proposed a review of R&D incen ves to make it a rac ve for companies to
bring more R & D ac vi es to the country.
2. AMMI proposed to increase the ceiling of Automa on Capital Allowance for expenditure
to RM 10 million.
3. AMMI proposed that the off-take agreement (where Ministry of Health agrees to buy
medical devices that are manufactured in the country for the first me) must give due
regard to investments made by both local companies as well as mul -na onal companies
in the country over imported products or local products with cursory local content.
4. AMMI proposed that the MIDA Training Grant (currently applicable for ini al investment
projects by a new company and limited up to first five years of opera ons) should be
extended for new products or new technology transfers instead as this will help medical
companies to con nue to expand and transfer new technologies and products to
Malaysia.
