Education for a
differently-abled child
By Dr. Rajeev Thomas M.A., M.B.A., Ph.D.
ducating their children is a dream
that every parent harbours and works
Erelentlessly in that direction. Qatar
provides some excellent educational
opportunities for children through the various
government and private schools and colleges
that have been established here. Now what do
we do if the child is differently abled?
Qatar has over 11,086 individuals with
disabilities according to 2016 statistics
published by the Ministry of Development
Planning & Statistics. Of these, many are
children and the numbers are growing
each year especially with the influx of
expatriates into the country due to the
various employment opportunities created
in the build up to the world cup and beyond.
This report also indicates the presence of 27
centers for persons with special needs across
the country. Among the students registered in
these centers, 60% are male. Qatari students
constitute 50.3% of all enrolled students.
