WELCOME TO THE VPG

A warm welcome this evening to all FC Halifax Town
ofcials, players and fans and we hope they enjoy their
visit to the Victoria Pleasure Ground.

Sadly too many people I know think of Halifax as just
where the bank originates, and the building society
before it, but as someone who has ventured into West
Yorkshire a fair bit in their lifetime, my take on Halifax is
it’s a strong industrial town still, and with a long and
proud football heritage with The Shay known to all
         football fans across the country.

I’m excited to see the club making steps up the football pyramid after it was kick-started again a
little over ten years ago. There is nothing and nobody bigger than the club, but a club is an
empty vessel without its fans and volunteers that make it up. But I’m sure our counterparts from

Halifax will testify, it was hard in the dark days and it is hard now.

It’s been such a massive loss to our club with so many volunteers stepping down from their
positions at the club. We knew at the start of the season, with no willing benefactor wanting to

throw money at the club like the last ten years that has seen nearly £250,000 thrown at it, it was
         always going to be hard.

To replicate the achievements of other clubs that have managed it without a Sheikh or a
billionaire, we need to be dedicated and over-come each and every problem along the way. I

don’t doubt for a minute that people have stuck with the club through thick and thin over the

years, and they’ve been the smallest but most dedicated group of seless people that people
see as ‘the club’. But what the club stands for is the same and Steve and Craig’s vision of a

self-funding club that can grow and compete at the highest level possible is still our aim.
We all need the club to love and to argue about, so we have to keep going and supporting.
We weren’t far off the level of a top Worksop side on Saturday so let’s have a good go tonight,
and as you do, get behind the lads.
         UTV, Alan
