Queries with Simple Criteria
There are various types of queries that provide useful information in the Sales/Collection
Business Process. We created some of these queries while building the Sales Form in the
previous exercise. In addition, both internal and external users often need to query the
database to obtain information. For example, Dan Tragg may wish to obtain a list of each
inventory item and its selling price to determine whether they are low on any particular
type of surfboard. To obtain this information, we would use a Select Query. A select query
is the most commonly used type of query. It retrieves rows of data from one or more tables
and displays the results in a dynaset. The select query can be enhanced to group records
and calculate sums, averages, and other totals.
To obtain the inventory list for Tragg's Custom Surfboard is relatively easy and
requires the use of only one table.
1. Click on the Queries object. Click on Create query in Design view. Click on
Inventory Table in the Show Table window, click Add and click Close.
2. Drag InventoryID, InventoryDescription, and InventoryPrice into the first
three columns of the design grid.
