CRAFTS PRODUCTION ZONES
IN THE DOMINICAN REPUBLIC
To promote a better understanding of the artisan sector of the country, this section gives a description of
the six production zones of the country and indicates their principal products, cultural and natural resources, as
well as the marketing facilities available in the provinces making up same.

One of the city’s main places of interest is the Casa
de Teatro Crafts Fair, opened from Friday to Sunday in the
Plaza Bartolomé de las Casas in the Colonial City.
To the west, in the community Cambita Garabito,
Province San Cristóbal, they make wood-carvings of birds
(roosters, parrots…) and other animals (fish), which, along
with the butterflies out of coconut shells from Espaillat
Province (Moca) and carved saints from Monseñor Nouel
Province (Bonao), were awarded the Seal of Excellence by
UNESCO in 2006,
The Puello brothers, following the legacy of their de-
ceased father, Don Erasmo, have been pioneers in the
elaboration of these carvings. Other artisans residing and
working here have organized themselves to supply the
constant demand, derived principally from tourism.
