Seacock
Industry standards and regulations require a seacock with certain applications to prevent water entry from a leak in the cooling
system. Refer to applicable standards and regulations for specific requirements. The seacock also allows the water to be shut
off when servicing the engine. A seacock is necessary to allow proper flushing of Bravo models with closed cooling and
simplifies flushing on all models equipped with remote or alternative water pickups.
The seacock must provide minimum restriction to water flow (refer to Specifications). A ball or gate valve is recommended.
The ball valve is most common and is typically equipped with a lever type handle that operates in a 90° arc. This design gives a
clear indication of whether the valve is open or shut. Industry standards and requirements typically require that the seacock be
rigidly attached to the hull at the water pickup. The seacock location should be readily accessible for quick, easy operation.
