Abstract
The Study of Household Demand for Farm Labor in 2017
The Study of Household Demand for Farm Labors in 2017 aimed at
investigating farm labor efficiency and demand by crops and farm sizes as well as
willingness of alien labors from Myanmar, Laos, Cambodia and Vietnam to work in Thailand.
This study was conducted by in-depth interviewing with 2,016 sample farmers who grow rice,
cassava, maize, rubber, palm oil, durian and longan, including companies or agents who
imported foreign labors.

of field crops, farm machineries were widely used in large farms.
Regarding demand for farm labors, the results classified by crops and sizes
were as follow. Rice farming trended to decrease in labor demand when farm sizes increased
due to substitution effects between machinery and labors. Cassava had an upward trend in
labor demand, particularly Thai labors, as farm sizes increased. In case of maize and rubber,
there was a tendency of high demand for Thai and alien labors when enlarging farm sizes. Oil
