labors were upward as farm sizes expanded. For Longan, small farms depended on family

labors while large farms had both family and hired labors. In harvest season, almost all of

large longan farms had hired alien labors.

In terms of willingness to work, Myanmar, among alien laborers, preferred to

work in Thailand most and many of them worked in agro-industries. Since farm sector offered

seasonal jobs which were not secured, therefore, Myanmar laborers trended to have less

interests to work on farm. For Laos, there was an increasing tendency of labor exports to

Thailand due to support policies of Laos government. In regard to Cambodia, import demand

for farm labor had a declined trend because Cambodian laborers preferred to work in non-

farm sector which offered higher incomes and welfares. About Vietnam, laborers were not

willing to work in Thailand because Vietnam enabled to absorb all in their own labor

markets. Besides, wage rates were not different between the two countries.

This study suggested that to increase farm labor efficiency, government sector

should continue supporting collective farm (or big/large farm) policy in order to reduce costs

and increase productivity. Moreover, enhancing access to technology and labor-replacing

innovation as well as good management of alien labors needed to be further addressed.
