Bittersweet

                                                   By: Bryant Gabriel Effendi

It was a sweltering hot morning. He took a sip of his warm cup of Americano and
sank to his couch. Dave Jones was a retired detective . He gave up on his job in
his early 30s due to his competitor and colleague , Sam Williams, outshining him
in every way possible. He then took his newspaper and peered at it. What was in
there made him sick to his stomach.

There was a shocking headline in the newspaper. “ Detective Sam stabbed in
both eye sockets, eyes gouged out and left to bleed “ The censored picture
triggered his gag reflex and he emptied the contents of his breakfast to his
bathroom. The thought kept him awake for nights and nights , growing and
blooming like a weed . At last, he finally made a very difficult decision: To avenge
               his rival.

To first solve a crime, you have to gather evidence from the crime scene, ask
witnesses, combine all the information and at last narrow it to one or two
suspects. That is exactly what Dave did. While gathering information at the crime
scene, he suddenly saw a black silhouette . A stain of red liquid was dripping

from his shirt, but his details was too far to make out

While Chasing after the man, the sound of thunder interrupted him. He
               remembered the time when..

It was a cold rainy night. He was called by his colleagues to discuss a case that
occurred in the neighborhood which caused 35 deaths and 27 injured people.
Sam stood by his table, teasing him how he , by himself, solved a total of 30

major cases, and how Dave never solved any major cases. The embarrassment
and pain caused by Sam made him feel determined that once in his pathetic life,
he must solve at least one major case. This is his chance!
