Military Law

n any organization of people, whether a business, school, community, ath-
Iletic team, or military unit, there has to be an understanding of what can
and cannot be done. There must be a code of law, rules, and established regu-
lations by which all group members conduct themselves. Accordingl)" civilized
human beings have developed a number of law codes, each designed to fit a
particular society.
Some of these law codes, or lists of laws, often studied in high school civics,
government, or political science classes, are civil law, constitlltionallaw, criminal
law, and international law (discussed in unit 4). This ullit will be primarily con-
cerned with another code oflaws: military law.
