History and Facts about Mount Sinai Hospital
Mount Sinai Hospital was first established in 1923 as
a 33-bed maternity and convalescent hospital on
Yorkville Avenue by a group of dedicated Jewish
women volunteers from the Ezras Noshem Society.
Mount Sinai Hospital’s founders envisioned a non-
denominational hospital that would welcome the
Jewish community, educate young Jewish doctors
and most importantly give back to its community by
providing care to the entire population.
With the growth of the hospital Mount Sinai Hospital
relocated in 1953 to 550 University Avenue (now
Toronto Rehabilitation Institute), where we operated a
330 bed facility. In 1973, we moved to our current
