Phase 1: Opened in 2012
6 new floors on the Murray Street side of the building.
Additional 160,000 sq. ft., primarily to the Frances Bloomberg Centre for Women’s and Infant’s
Health, including the David & Stacey Cynamon Mother and Baby Unit.
Phase II: Opened in 2015
New Neonatal Intensive Care Unit: single room units, enhanced security and infection control
features.
New Labour and Delivery Unit: including 5 new operating rooms.
New Antenatal units: with increased room sizes.
Phase III A: Planning and Design Underway
Schwartz/Reisman Emergency Department: The current Emergency Department will be
doubled in size, expanding its footprint on the main floor of the hospital.
Surgical Suite: Perioperative Services, including pre- and post-operative care, will be expanded
and consolidated on the 7th Floor.
The Medical Devices Reprocessing Department (MDRD) will be expanded and updated to
provide a full suite of in-house reprocessing services. Health Records and Materials
Management & Linen Services will also relocate.
Intensive Care Unit (ICU): The Intensive Care Unit will be more than doubled, moving from
Floor 18 to Floor 5.
Ambulatory Care: The current Emergency Department will double in size, expanding its footprint
on the main floor of the hospital.
Support Programs and Services: The Medical Devices Reprocessing Department (MDRD) will
be expanded and updated to provide a full suite of in-house reprocessing services. Health
Records and Materials Management & Linen Services will also relocate.
