water power. However, they are not the only one. The other not
so common forms of renewable energy include biomass, solid
wastes, biofuel, tidal energy and geothermal forms of energy.
However the implementation of renewable energy has to
overcome several barriers. These hurdles include
commercialization barriers due to its new technology, tax

distortions, failure of the market to promote the benefits of
renewable to the public, market barriers such as lack of

information and funding.
In this line, in order to be able to move towards renewable
energy onto commercialization and making Mauritius more

environmentally green and sustainable, we are organising a
renewable energy summit. This summit will bring together
academics and industries to further ease with the
implementation of renewable energy and try to overcome the
various barriers.

In the current time, renewable energy is a must due to the
following factors: fossil fuel is limited; the planet is already
experiencing extreme conditions in terms of climate change

and carbon emissions; energy security; environmental damage;
economic stability and public health among others. The energy

summit will be a reminder of the benefits that the environment
bestows upon us and also the fact that we need to protect it in
order to ensure a safe planet for our progenies. The future of
our planet and children is in our hand and the future is green

energy, sustainability and renewable energy.
