Long ago in Europe, there lived an honest and hard-working farmer. He saved for many
years until he had enough money to buy his own piece of land. One day, he was ploughing the
land when he dug up a box f lled with gold bars.

The farmer quickly went to the house of the man who had sold him the land. This landowner
was also an honest man. When the farmer tried to return the gold bars to him, he refused to take
them.

The landowner said that since he had sold the land, everything in it belonged to the farmer.
Both men insisted the other should keep the gold. When a passer-by heard their story, he suggested

that they should share the gold bars equally. Then, they both agreed happily.
