Entry Requirements
Minimum of Grade B at IGCSE History is required.
If History has not been studied at IGCSE then the results of English Language and English Litera-
ture may be used for entry.
Course Outline
AS Level
Paper 1: The Search for International Peace and Security, 1919–1945
Compulsory question which is source based on The Creation of the League of Nation and The United Na-
tions
Paper 2: International Option: International Relations, 1871–1945
Outline study beginning with the Imperial Expansion in the late Nineteenth Century and ending with Chi-
na and Japan 1919-45
A2 Level
Paper 3: Topic 3: The Origins and Development of the Cold War, 1941–1950
Interpretations question about the The Origins and Development of the Cold War examining different in-
terpretations of the still controversial event.
Paper 4: Depth study 3: International History, 1945–1991
Outline study focusing on International Relations during the Cold War.
Assessment
Both AS and A Level History are assessed by written examination, testing the ability of the pupils to write
relevant and concise answers accompanied by intelligent comment and comparison. Skill and judgment
must be demonstrated in the use of original source materials. Each paper will be tested at the end of AS and
A2 respectively.
