         Entry Requirements
         Minimum of Grade B at IGCSE Geography. For direct entry, pupils need strong academ-
         ic credentials including at least a B Grade at IGCSE level for English and Mathematics.



        Course Outline


        AS Level

        Physical Geography

        1. Hydrology and Fluvial Geomorphology – Drainage basin system, Rainfall – discharge relationship within
        drainage basins, River channel processes and landforms, the Human Impact.

        2. Atmosphere and Weather – Energy and budgets, the Earth-atmosphere energy budget, Weather processes
        and phenomena, the Human Impact.

        3. Rocks and Weathering – Elementary plate tectonics, Weathering and rocks, Slopes, processes and develop-
        ment, the Human Impact.

        Human Geography

        1. Population Change – Natural increase as a component of population change, Migration as a component of
        population change, Population – resource relationships, the Management of population change.

        2. Migration – Migration as a component of population change, Internal migration, International migration
        and the Management of international migration.

        3. Settlement Dynamics – Relationships between settlements, Changes in rural settlements, Urban trends and
        issues of urbanisation, the Changing structure of urban settlements.

        A2 Level
        At least two of the Physical options below must be studied.

        1. Tropical Environmental – Climates, Ecosystems, Landforms and Sustainable management of tropical en-
        vironments.

        2. Coastal Environments – Waves, and marine processes, Coastal landforms of cliffed and constructive coasts,
        coral reefs, Sustainable management of coasts.

        3. Hazardous Environments – Resulting from Crustal (tectonic) movement, Mass movements and Atmos-
        pheric disturbances and Sustainable management in Hazardous Environments.

        4. Arid and Semi-Arid Environments – Distribution and climatic characteristics of hot arid and semi-arid
        environments, Processes producing desert landforms, Soils and vegetation and Sustainable management of
        arid and semi-arid Environments.
