Entry Requirements
Minimum of Grade B at IGCSE Economics (if taken), English Language and Mathematics

Course Outline

The AS Level is a one year course whilst the completion of the A Level takes a further year. Both will take
the pupil into the mechanics of national and international economies as well as equipping them with a va-
riety of analytical tools. To progress on to the A Level, the pupil must attain at least a C grade at AS Level
as well as having demonstrated an attitude consistent with hard work.

The specifications for both components cover the following topics:
• Scarcity, choice and resource allocation
• Different allocative mechanisms within economies
• Concepts of economic efficiency
• The price system
• The theory of the firm
• Government intervention in the price system
• International trade
• Theory and Measurement in the macroeconomy
• Macroeconomic problems and policies

Assessment

AS Level
Paper 1- Multiple Choice 1 hour
Paper 2 - Data Response & Essay 1 hour 30 minutes

A2 Level
Paper 3 - Multiple Choice Supplement 1 hour 15 minutes
Paper 4 - Data Response & Essay 2 hours 15 minutes
