Noun phrase = NP

 Noun phrase (นามวลี) คือกลุ่มค าที่มี noun หรือ pronoun เป็น

ค าหลัก และอาจมี modifiers (ส่วนขยาย) อยู่ด้วย

ตัวอย่างเช่น

ถ้า noun phrase มีส่วนขยายอยู่ข้างหน้านามตัวหลัก เราเรียกส่วนขยายนั้น

ว่า premodifier:

 Some black cats
เป็น NP ที่มี cats เป็นค าหลัก และมี some กับ black เป็น premodifiers

ถ้า noun phrase มีส่วนขยายอยู่ข้างหลังนามตัวหลัก เราจะเรียกส่วนขยาย
นั้นว่า postmodifier:

 The best day of my life
เป็น NP ที่มี day เป็นค าหลัก โดยมี the best เป็น premodifier และมี

of my life เป็น postmodifier

 the girl that I love
เป็น NP ที่มี girl เป็นค าหลัก โดยมี the เป็น premodifier และมี that I

love เป็น postmodifier
