What is a phrase?

 A phrase is a sequence or group of words that are

grammatically arranged.

 Phrase can be very short or quite long.
 Phrase can’t be used alone, but you can use them as

part of a sentence.

A phrase is one or more words that form a

meaningful grammatical unit within a clause. There

are five main types of phrase in English, as below.

Noun phrase Noun

Verb phrase Verb

Prepositional phrase Prepositional

Adjective phrase Adjective

Adverb phrase Adverb
