5.4.1 Containers

 Is used to facilitate movement, storage of loose items
 small loose items placed in tote pans, or skid boxes
 Type of container influences material handling equipment used.

a) Pallets
Most common form of unitizing device

b) Skids & skits boxes
Rigid, suitable for a wide variety of items but heavy to be lifted manually

c) Tote pans
Unitize and protect loose items. Return pans are popular used
d) Unitizer.
A special equipment used to facilitate the formation of a unit load

e) Palletizer
Suitable for case goods or bottle handling.

5.4.2 Material Transport Equipments

Can be differentiated by:
l) Degree of automation (walking, riding or automated)

2) Flow pattern continuous, intermittent, synchronous,
nonsynchronuous
3) Flow path-fixed or variable
