MATERIAL HANDLING
c) walkie stackers
extends the lifting capability, stackers unit load the storage
racks, transport a short distance
2) Riding industrial vehicles
Operator can ride the vehicle.
Suitable for longer distance travel. More weight and higher storage
capacity
a) Pallet truck
Used when the distance to be traveled precludes walking.
b) Platform truck
P r o v i d e a platform for supporting load. It has no lifting capability.
c) Tractor trailer
Providing power to hand trucks. Rider types vehicle to pull a train of
connected trailers.
3) Automated Industrial Vehicles
No human intervention from powering and guiding the movement of the
vehicle. Automatically guided by electrified wires buried in the floor, magnetic tape
lined along the floor, rail mounted in the ceiling, cameras mounted on the vehicles,
or inertial guided systems. The types are includes:
a) Automated guided vehicles (AGVs)
- resemble towline conveyors but it is driven and guided by it
own electric motors using storage batteries, followed
predeterminened path. Can be design as a tractor or unit
load carrier. Most common type used in manufacturing and
distribution.
- Uses electromagnetic path-following system, a guided wire
that carries a radio frequency (RF) signal is buried in the
floor. Some applications use optical path-following system.
