5.4.3 Storage and Retrieval Equipment.
- To house material for staging or building inventory and to retrieve
material for use. Two major classification are:
1) Unit Load storage and retrieval
- house large loads such as pallets, large boxes/rolls of materials.ꞏ Use prior to
full unit load shipping, reserve storage for replenishments of forward picking
areas, inventory for partial unit load picking.
a) Unit load storage equipments
Types are distinguished from one another by their rack configuration, lane
depth capacity, stacking capacity, unit load access, and capital expense. There
are Block Stacking, Stacking Frame, Single-Deep Selective Rack, Double-Deep
Rack, Drive-in Rack and etc.
b) Unit Load Retrieval Equipments
Types are distinguished from one another by their degree of automation,
capital expense, lift height, capacity, and aisle requirements. There are Walkie
Stacker, Counterbalance lift Truck, Narrow-Aisle Vehicles (straddle trucks,
straddle side loader trucks, turret trucks, and hybrids truck)
2) Small unit load Storage and Retrieval Equipment
House small inventory quantity of one or more items storage location
and been classified as:
