shielding application, the large amount of water is re-
quired. This is important to achieve a desire thickness
in order to make it effective shielding property. This
property can be increase by adding with some boron,
but another issue due to boron such as increase rate
of corrosion to surrounding component.
Concrete is widely used in many development of
nuclear energy and nuclear research sector. Concrete
has large density compared with water and also con-
tain hydrogen atom. This property is useful for neu-
tron and gamma shielding application. However, com-
mon or ordinary concrete is not effective unless it is
classified as heavy concrete. A density of heavy con-
crete is usually larger than 2.5 gcm3. This density
can be obtained when the natural granite aggregate
are mixed with heavy aggregate of barites, magnitite,
ferro-boron and etc. The manufactured heavy aggre-
gate such as steel punch, steel balls, lead balls, iron
balls or other additive can be composites with the gran-
ite and sand to form a heavy concrete for effective neu-
tron and gamma shielding. The thickness of shielding
become lesser when more heavier concrete is used to
make a shielding block.
