a. Aminophylline orally (Reliever)
No. Aminophylline is a methylxanthine similar to theophylline (its theophylline-
ethylenediamine complex). It would take too long to act if given orally, and would have
significant side effects. There is a safer, more rapidly acting therapeutic option listed below.
b. Cromolyn sodium (Controller)
No. Cromolyn sodium acts to prevent granule release from mast cells. It would not be
effective once the mast cells have already released their contents, and produced
bronchoconstriction. You need another agent that can directly & rapidly act on lung tissue
to reverse bronchoconstriction.
