Purpose Thoracentesis

1. Therapeutic

• Is to remove excess fluid from the pleural space to reduce the symptoms of stress for
example in the case of pleural effusion.

2. Diagnostics

• Is to take fluid samples for specimen samples to help determine the diagnosis of the

disease.

3. Medication

• Is to include chemotherapy drugs in cases of lung tissue cancer or treatment for

respiratory tuberculosis directly.
