Location Thoracentesis
The location that will be done by the doctor for thoracentesis depends
on the purpose of performing thoracentesis, namely:-
1. If pneumothorax
• The location to be performed for thoracentesis is between the 2nd or
3rd intercostals in the middle to the clavicle.
2. If haemothorax
• The location to be performed for thoracentesis (e.g. blood or for
medication administration) is between the 6th and 7th intercostals or
between the 8th and 9th intercostals.
