SOUTHERN ORANGE CANDY CAKE


     From the kitchen of Ruth Brown (Granny of Ashton Stowell)





















     Ingredients:

     1 lb chopped orange slices
     8oz pkg dates, chopped
     4 oz package coconut

     2c chopped pecans
     ½ tsp baking soda
     1 tsp salt

     5 eggs
     2 c sugar
     ¾ c buttermilk

     4 c flour
     1 c soft margarine
     1 tbsp vanilla







     Directions:
     Cream butter and sugar together. Add eggs (1 at a time) in a large mixing bowl. Mix orange
     slices, dates, coconut and chopped pecans and baking soda in a separate bowl, you can add

     some flour to keep ingredients from sticking together. Add milk and flour to butter mixture
     slowly while mixing. Fold in fruit-nut mix. Spoon into well-greased and floured tube or bunt

     pan. Bake at 300 degrees for 2.5 hours.
