2. DRESS AND APPEARANCE POLICY
POLICY STATEMENT
The purpose of this policy is to ensure that you understand the standards the company
expects on the required standards of dress and appearance. The company expects all
employees’ appearance and conduct to be of the highest standard at all times and you
must not dress in a way that may reasonably offend others.
The company will take a sensitive approach in respecting the need for employees who
hold particular faiths that require them to wear specific types of clothing/dress in a
particular way to do so. However, priority will be given to health and safety, security
and other similar considerations.
This policy is not definitive in defining what is and is not appropriate and therefore all
employees must use their common sense in applying it. If you are unclear about the
suitability of any item of clothing or footwear, you should consult your line
manager.
GENERAL RULES
The uniform that is provided by the company must be worn at all times. You are
required to ensure that it is clean, ironed, worn whilst at work and ensure that
your appearance is clean, smart and respectable
Office employees are required to ensure dress in a smart, appropriate and
business-like fashion
Protective clothing where necessary, will be provided by the company, and must
be worn at all times as directed by your line manager
Appropriate footwear is required to be worn at all times i.e. plain, low heels and
enclosed shoes for safety reasons
Make up – anything that is considered inappropriate for the workplace is not
permitted
Hair must be kept clean and tidy, have no unacceptable or inappropriate
colouring and, where long, must be tied back at all times
You must not wear any jewellery other than a wedding ring. These rules are in
place for safety/hygiene reasons
Moustaches/beards and sideburns must be kept neat and trimmed
Visible tattoos are not permitted and must therefore be covered by clothing or a
plaster
BREACH OF POLICY
You are responsible for ensuring you are aware of the dress standards expected by
the company and maintaining them whilst at work.
You have a responsibility to yourself, your colleagues and customers to maintain a
high standard of personal hygiene at all times.
