Engaging Extracurriculars
T he Catholic Memorial High School experience reaches far
beyond the classroom. Student life is full of opportunities
to explore, dream and succeed. Students are encouraged
to explore and grow their passions through a variety of
activities that promote personal growth intellectually,
spiritually and socially. Whether through drama, art, music,
robotics, faith or a student-created club, CMH offers countless
activities that engage them in self-discovery.
HEALTH SCIENCE
PASSION EXTENDS
OUTSIDE CLASSROOM
Biomedical studies at CMH sparked such
a passion in Dewane Kayiwa ’20 that
he wanted to find a way to apply what he
was learning in the classroom in a real-
world way. So, with the backing of the CMH
faculty, Dewane established a CMH chapter
of HOSA (Health Occupations Students
of America), an organization dedicated to
empowering future health professionals
to develop leadership and technical skills
through education, collaboration and
experience. “Participating in biomedical
classes and HOSA boosted my problem-
solving skills, granted me practice and
knowledge that other undergrads were
deprived of,” said Dewane, currently a
freshman at UW-LaCrosse
“MY CONFIDENCE IN CREATING
THIS GROUP WAS ROOTED
IN THE CMH COMMUNITY. I
KNEW KIDS WOULD JOIN AND
PERFORM WELL BECAUSE
THEY POSSESS AN INTRINSIC
MOTIVATION FOR DOING
AND LEARNING, WHICH IS
REINFORCED BY CMH FACULTY.”
