SPRING 2014 NEWSLETTER SHARBOT LAKE PROPERTY OWNERS’ ASSOCIATION
2014 Municipal Elections
Kevin Browne
As I am sure you are aware, this is the year in which the Municipal Elections occur. In a municipal
election you have the right to vote in any municipality in which you own property and you should
exercise this right. What to do now? Ensure you are on the voter list. You should be registered to vote in each
municipality where you own property. Go to https://www.voterlookup.ca/home.aspx to:
• confirm the accuracy of your elector information
• update your information
• add a name to the enumeration
Note: for some cottage addresses, you may need to reference the Roll number from your last Property
Assessment Notice or municipal tax bill. When I did it my wife was registered but I had to add my name.
For those in the Sharbot Lake area you are in the area designated as Ward 3 – Oso Township allowing
you to vote for the 2 positions for our councillors and for position of mayor. Over the past four years our
councilors have been Frances Smith and Wayne Millar and our mayor has been Janet Gutowski. In the
upcoming election Janet Gutowski will once again be running for mayor, Frances Smith has decided to
change her position as councillor and run for the position of our mayor and Wayne Millar is running for
the councillor position.
As we get closer to the Election date of Monday October 27, 2014, additional individuals may decide to
run for the positions of mayor and/or councillor and we will do our best to keep you informed so that you
are ready to vote. To assist in this we asked these representatives to write a message to you, the elector to
be included in this newsletter so that you can have the opportunity to get to know them and their
perspectives. Each person responded positively and the following are the messages they have provided.
The executive of SLPOA would like to ask that you review these and please let us know if you would like
us to setup an opportunity to meet these people to get to know them better before the election.
Councillor Ward 3 (Oso Township) – Wayne Millar
Hello Kevin,
I would like to thank the Sharbot Lake Property Owners Association for asking me to write an article for your
Newsletter. In my four years as a councillor for Central Frontenac, I found being a councillor very Interesting
and a great experience, that is why I decided to run again in Oso Township ward [3].
In my four years I was a member of the following committees: The Farmer Market, The Mississippi Valley
Conservation Authority, Committee Of Adjustment Under the Planning Act, The Waste Management
Committee, The Hiring Committee for the new Treasure and also a new Committee just started for Septic
Systems.
I feel as a councillor for Central Frontenac we all have done a great job, tried to keep the Township running
smooth, and to keep the taxes in line. I realize that no one wants to pay taxes, that is why we as council have
spent a great deal of time going over the budget for [needs and the necessities].I think your Association is
doing a great job looking after the lakes. I thank you and look forward for your support for another four years.
Yours Truly; Wayne A Millar
