         Environmental Issues Coordinator- Kevin Browne

Kevin mentioned that septic pumping on several islands was realized in May. Special thanks were expressed to
Charmaine Jones and Linda Gaudet for their work to make it happen. John Wemp’s property on east basin was
used to put the barge, from Safeline Marine Construction, into the water. Charmaine suggested that the
township should be encouraged to provide public access to the east basin. The west basin has public access at
         the public dock.
Voluntary septic inspections will be available this year through the Township. Letters are being sent out to
Kennebec Lake, West and East Basin properties by the Mississippi Rideau Septic Systems Office (MRSSO).
MRSSO recommends that septic systems not be pumped before an inspection.

Kevin attended the Lake Links Meeting in Perth in October 2012 and encouraged everyone to attend as it is a
         very worthwhile source of information.
         Loons
Kevin reported the following info on loons on the East Basin.

The East basin has 6 chicks this year an increase of 3 from last year. There was some discussion about
encouraging boaters to watch their wake from May till early July so as not to disturb nesting loons. If anyone is
interested in building a loon nest please contact Kevin at kevin.browne@slpoa.ca for a set of plans.

Charmaine mentioned that Pam Hickman has volunteered to do the loon count on the west basin.

Further information is available in the 2013 Newsletter’s environmental report.

Kevin noted that a map of the Mississippi Valley area was posted on the wall and asked attendees to review the
map and add any known information regarding names of roads, creeks and bays.
